(500) Days of Summer (2009)

We watched this one following on from watching high fidelity, because the premise of a guy coming to terms with his love life seemed similar. This one was much better though, because the two main characters both seemed flawed and human.
Every film is improved by the appearance of an unreasonably precocious youngster, and i’m not sure whether this one had one for laughs or not, but it was nice to see whatever the reason. In general, the film didn’t take itself too seriously, but also didn’t come off as a joke; it seemed to be perfectly content being a well made romcom, and with that goal in mind it was very serviceable.
The ending was left pleasantly open, and throughout the film, neither character came off as a terrible or unreasonable person, just two people who didn’t see eye to eye about things. All in all, a very acceptable romcom.
