Cunk on life (2024)

It’s hard not to like Cunk. She asks silly questions and people get offended because they’ve spent fifty years convincing themselves of how important their work is that they’ve forgotten how to have a laugh.

This one is long and ambitious, and i have two observations. First, it’s not as laugh-out-loud funny as some of the previous ones. That’s not to say i sat in silence the whole time, but it didn’t make me laugh as much. I wonder if part of that is because more people know about Cunk and so are already anticipating what she’s going to say.

The second thing is that the humour seems to be getting more absurd. There are still jokes about penises, but they are mixed in with a deeper style of humour. Perhaps that’s why it wasn’t so directly funny, and perhaps the change in the style of humour is a direct attempt to keep people confused when they already are aware of the bit, but it’s an interesting change.

I hope they make more of these, and i hope that in the future the scope becomes a bit more focused. Life is big, and there’s a lot of ground to cover, and i think that the smaller episodes on a particular topic lead to a faster pace and more humour.
