Hunt for the wilderpeople (2016)

There are few films that i have watched more than once; i don’t have a lot of time, and in general i would rather try something new than watch something i’ve seen before. But i’ve watched this one several times, because it gets most things right.

At a hundred minutes long, its just the right length to not start feeling tedious. The script is well written and the jokes land. The jokes cover a wide variety of topics, and generally avoid too much focus on cringe or gross humour, which elevates the whole script. The plot is simple, but the setting is fairly unique which makes the film feel fresh. The actors embody their characters well and have unique backstories which are sometimes elaborated upon, and sometimes not. There is a large climax which seems to involve the whole of the new zealand army, and looks great.

There’s not much negative i can say about the film. If you want a light-hearted comedy that stands above many of the others, hunt for the wilderpeople is a good pick.
