Queer (2024)

Well i don’t know what was going on with this film at all. I cannot tell a lie: it was enjoyable. Stylish and well-shot. The acting was hit-or-miss, but not to such an extent that it ruined everything for me. The protagonists were not the nicest people ever and their relationship seemed quite contrived in every regard.

The plot was the main point of interest; things just happened for seemingly arbitrary reason, and the characters just went along with it, seemingly without any autonomy of their own. Throughout, the plot got weirder and weirder but i couldn’t work out whether it was trying to be serious about it or some kind of satire, although of course that could well be a me problem.

Overall, the film felt like it was trying too hard to be something it didn’t have the substance to properly realise.
