酱园弄·悬案 She’s got no name (2024)

Visually, this film is spectacular. The music is great, the camera angles are great, and the set design is great.

Sometimes, it was a bit hard to me to follow, as it was in chinese and didn’t have english subtitles. The plot featured a non-linear narrative, and i like that, but trying to hold the plot and the language in my head at the same time was a little too much for my chinese ability.

Although it was visually impressive, often those visuals were quite disturbing. There were a lot of scenes of violence, abuse and gore, which were not pleasant to look at.

I was also unaware of the story this film is based on. I think that having that backstory would make watching the film more interesting, although it does still stand on its own without prior knowledge.

I really like some of the new films coming out of china. The film industry is developing fast and while there is a lot of junk, as with every film industry everywhere in the world, there are some really nice ideas too. I think that this is one of them.
