The Corpse Bride (2005)

This film was really great. Like most of Tim Burton’s musical films, i didn’t think much of the musical numbers, but luckily they were few and far between. The animation style is excellent. The script is really well written with lots of little side jokes that made me literally laugh out loud. Of all the films i’ve seen recently, this one comes the closest to small but perfectly formed. Almost nothing feels superfluous, the almost being the annoying ugly maggot.

The film is only eighty minutes long! More films should be this length, please. And the whole way through i wasn’t even certain what would happen at the end. It’s a love triangle that actually feels equally weighted. Obviously the evil lord was predictable, but i think that was deliberately done, so i won’t dock any marks there.

No disappointment at all with this one. Better than a nightmare before christmas.
