The Spongebob Movie: Search For Squarepants (2025)

Maybe i should have know what i would be in for, but i have never watched spongbob in my life, not the cartoon nor the previous films. This thing was a complete mess.

It’s not that there was nothing good about the film. I feel like the voice actors were really a part of the characters they were playing, and a couple of the jokes landed, and the song by Ice Spice was also not bad. But there was no greater intention; it just felt like a long episode of a tv show i’ve never watched, where the characters were excessive and annoying, and the majority of the jokes were kind of gross.

I guess i’m just not the target audience. Spongebob feels like some part of a culture that could have been fun, if i had been introduced to it at the right age, and that age has long since passed. I’m a little sad about that.

On the other hand, Kalista is a fan of spongebob and also felt that this film was lacking in multiple dimensions, so perhaps at this point it really is just a cash grab. One to avoid.
